Shirley Marie Poorman Cervone, age 85 who resided in Annandale, VA passed away on November 30, 2020 from Lung Cancer. She was born on September 8, 1935 in Mansfield, Ohio where she spent her younger years. She was the daughter of John and Grace Poorman, who precedes her in death. Shirley was the 3rd of 4 children. In 1963, Shirley Married the love of her life, Ralph Cervone who has since passed. Shirley was fortunate to find love a second time in life and shared 14 beautiful years of love and great companionship with her sweetheart Henry Pressley. Shirley retired after approximately 30 years from the Pentagon as the Assistant to the First Sargent of the Air Force where she received numerous awards.
She was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, and the Ladies Axillary of the Moose. There Ralph and her ran many Bingo nights for these organization. She also enjoyed spending time chatting with her sons, Grandchildren and Henry’s family. She was an avid sports fan who loved to go to games and also watched the Washington Nationals and Washington Redskins football on Tv. She was even known to make a few bets on who would win. She enjoyed watching old Westerns on tv and her soap opera daily. One of her most favorite pastimes was going to casinos with Henry to play the slots. In her younger years she enjoyed swimming, being on bowling leagues and roller skating.
Shirley is survived by her brother John Poorman of Mansfield, OH., Sons Michael Howard of Ashland OH., and Randolph Cervone of Stafford, VA. She had five grandchildren Sarah Simpson of Virginia Beach, VA, Vincent Cervone of Springfield, VA, Jillian Howard of New Smyrna, FL, Ashley Covey of Beaverdam, VA and Alexis Rehm of Stafford, VA. She had 3 great grandchildren Nathaniel and Teagen Simpson of Virginia Beach, VA and Harlee Manning of Beaverdam, VA. She will always be remembered as a loving and forgiving Mother who was adored by all who knew her.
A private gathering to celebrate her life will be held on December 18. It is required that everyone wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Private grave-side services will be at Quantico Cemetry to follow at 1:30pm for family only due to COVID restrictions.
