Richard “Rick” Gravley, 68, passed away on May 28, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia. Born on March 10, 1957, in Radford, Virginia, Rick lived a life defined by deep connections, unwavering loyalty, and an enduring love for his community.
Rick was a devoted father to his daughter, Cynthia “Justine” Gravley, who was the light of his life. Their bond was unbreakable and central to everything he did. He also shared lifelong friendships with Mary Nottingham, Warren Archibald, and Donald Sellman—companions who stood beside him through every chapter of his journey. Rick is also remembered by his siblings Brenda, Jeanie and Bill. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Gravley.
A proud Alexandrian, Rick found joy in the simple pleasures of life: the pulse of rock ‘n’ roll music—especially the sounds of Guns N’ Roses—the comfort of good company, and the strength of meaningful relationships. His heart beat with authenticity and passion; he lived each day with grit and purpose. Known for valuing people far more than possessions, Rick left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He often described himself as a foot soldier in both life and spirit—a man who met challenges head-on with courage and resilience. Whether sharing stories over music or offering a steady hand to those in need, Rick’s presence brought warmth and strength to those around him.
Rick Gravley was the best dad, the best guy—and he will be missed beyond words. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
