June M. Vlaun-Burkhart, age 70, peacefully entered eternal rest in the early morning
hours of December 28, 2023 after powerfully fighting a long, two year battle with cancer.
June was born on June 14, 1953 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She moved throughout
childhood being from a military family, which included a period of time in Germany. June’s
family eventually settled in Huntington, Long Island where she graduated from Walt Whitman
High School and continued to live as a young adult. She proudly received her degree from
the college of insurance and continued in the field working as a benefits coordinator; she
even worked throughout the extent of her treatments, despite her declining health.
June had a passion for music and enjoyed attending local dances. She swept the floor
with her smile and was always happy to dance with a newcomer, even if it meant quietly
covering their off-beat moves to help bring them back on cue. In addition to her love of
dancing, June loved gardening, her various pets throughout her life, camping, and spending
time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She had a full sense of humor and
her infectious laughter could lift anyone’s mood. June cared deeply for her family and
friends, always providing some motherly advice (whether asked for or not) and could always
be counted on to fight for what was right.
June is survived by her daughters Natalie Ames (spouse Greg) and Katrina Fisher
(spouse David), five grandchildren Carlton, Sadie, Sara, Lucas and Samuel, sisters Maureen
Vlaun-Orgera (spouse Thomas) and Susan Purcell (spouse Steven) in addition to their
children, plus numerous extended family members and loving friends. June was
predeceased by her parents, Richard and Sophie Vlaun.
The family is currently making plans for the funeral services, details to be shared
privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the family or donate to a cancer
foundation for research.
