Jane Goeller

Jane Charlotte Lear Goeller, age 66 from Mason Neck, VA passed into God’s great glory on April 9, 2020 surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.
Jane was born in Alexandria, VA to Marvin and Jean Clark Lear. She enjoyed 43 years of marriage to Thomas Gary Goeller. She was a member of the first graduating class at Hay-field Secondary School and graduated from the department of education with an Early Child-hood degree from James Madison College. She loved making many friends as a member of both Marching Bands. Jane lived a fulfilling life of love and service to her family, church, and community.
Everyone knew Jane’s chosen career in life was motherhood. There wasn’t a newborn she didn’t want to hug and cuddle. She was most proud of the fact that she had five children with no pain medication and even delivered one child with only a midwife at our home. Tom, her husband, bragged that he could count on one hand how many times he changed diapers. Jane also loved cooking very elaborate English meals for Christmas and Easter. When the last child finished high school, instead of a sports car, Tom had to purchase an eight- passenger van for transporting grandchildren. Her children were her life.
Jane served her community through her career as an early childhood educator. She taught at Beth Israel Early Learning Center in Jackson, MS, Gunston Elementary School in Lor-ton, VA, and later served as a substitute teacher for Fairfax County elementary schools.
Jane served generously as a member of Pohick Episcopal Church in Lorton, VA. She cared for children in the nursery, taught Sunday school, taught art at Vacation Bible school, and greeted people at Pohick’s Attic Treasures during the Christmas Mart. She was head of the Guild of the Christ Child, supporting families after the birth of a child and at baptisms and confirma-tions. In addition to service to Pohick, she ran story time during Vacation Bible school at Cran-ford Methodist Church and served as a member of the Daughters of the King at St James Epis-copal Church.
Jane will be remembered for her overwhelming kindness. She made a friend everywhere she went and went out of her way to help those close to her. She was happiest being able to hug and love on those around her. She was a committed and loyal friend always attending birthdays, performances, and other special events.
Jane had an outgoing, playful personality. She loved going to amusement parks such as Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion with her family and enjoyed spoiling her many grandchil-dren. She shared a love of motorcycles with her husband, and enjoyed going on motorcycle rides, and attending rallies such as Rolling Thunder. She could be found singing and dancing in the aisles of the grocery store or at her children’s and grandchildren’s local performances. Her hobbies included listening to her heart throbs Peter Noone (of Herman and his Hermits) and watching David McCallum (Man from Uncle and NCIS). She loved watching I Love Lucy and could identify any part of any show. She loved sitcoms.
Jane was a lover of the arts. She shared her love of singing as a member of the Sweet Adelines International. Her love for watercolors and acrylics can be found in the many paintings she created hanging on her walls.
The daughter of an Englishwoman, Jane will be remembered for her love of her British heritage. British traditions could be seen in all aspects of her life, especially during the holidays. She never missed nap time and the world paused every morning and afternoon for tea time.
Jane is survived by her husband Thomas Goeller, her five children, Caitlyn Smith, Brent Goeller, Niah Henry, Devon Goeller and Hannah Goeller, as well as her seven grandchildren, Julian Smith, Gwendolyn Goeller, Wyatt Henry, Esther Goeller, Madeleine Smith, Lorelai Henry, and Leia Goeller.

Funeral services will be announced in the Fall. In lieu of flowers, Tom asks that donations be made in Jane’s honor to Pohick Church towards a golf cart to provide additional mobility as-sistance around the church grounds.
