On February 27, 2025, Gregory Smith Sr. Passed at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington,
Virginia. He was born on March 24, 1949. He was a beloved son of Rolfe and Lily Smith.
Gregory graduated from East Orange High School 1968. From there he enlisted into the Marine
Corps in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1973. He moved to Virginia after leaving the
Marines. He meets Brenda Smith (Wright) in 1974. At the time he worked for Virginia
Concrete and then went to Arlington County Public Work where he retired from. He lived on
Edison Street for over 40 years. His friendly but no-nonsense personality will definitely miss by
many. If you knew him, he was always sitting on the porch either smoking a cigarette or having
woof… (a drink). The neighbors nicknamed him “The Mayor of Edison St”. Gregory Sr.
Leaves behind four beautiful children, Michele, Shereean, Gregory Jr and Natasha. He also has
11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Gregory has two surviving brothers Rolfe and
Matthew Smith. Gregory T. Smith Sr was one of the hardest working man we would ever know.
We were proud to have called him DADDY! He will be truly missed!!
