Genevieve Henry Mundy (née Coughlin), of Great Falls, Virginia passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the age of 88. Born on April 2, 1933 to the late Patrick and Rose (Rooney) Coughlin in Manhattan, Genevieve was the dear sister to the late Margaret (Coughlin) Ficke and first wife to the late John L. Henry. She was a loving mother and is survived by her children, Jeaneen Feldman (Paul) of Washington, D.C. and John L. Henry, Jr. (Paige) of Harding Township, NJ. She was also a devoted grandmother and leaves behind six grandchildren, Jenna, John, Sean, Dana, Maura and Meghan, all of whom affectionately called her “Nanny”.
Genevieve, known as “Jean” to her close friends and family, spent most of her life in New Jersey and relocated to Virginia 20 years ago. She was actively involved with her late husband, William Mundy, a former US Navy Officer, with the U.S.S. Cabot Association (CVL28), the Somerville, NJ Elks B.P.O. 1068 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Genevieve was devout in her Roman Catholic faith, an avid reader, and a history buff at heart. She was a strong woman, quick-witted, and proud of her Irish heritage. She is a survivor of breast cancer, pneumonia twice, and Covid-19. Her most enjoyable moments were the times she spent caring for her grandchildren and carting them to and from school, sports, and other activities.
A private family service will be held in her honor in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate ).
