Emil L. Koennel, age 71, and longtime resident of Arlington VA, died on November 17, 2021. Emil was born on December 14, 1949 in Washington, D.C. to Emil Koennel and Marie Kristin. He went to St. Anthony High School and graduated from Catholic University of America with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He co-founded K2 Consulting in 1990, and worked diligently to become an industry leader in project management, systems integration, and security solutions. His technical expertise and ability to connect with partners, facilitated a diverse range of domestic and international projects, including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, airports and transportation authorities. Emil had a passion for tennis and golf “big time”. He enjoyed spending time with his close friends, Gabe “Gabber” Faraone, Tom “Super” Kalil, Jim “Mac” McIntyre, Tom “Lapper” Milos, Bill “Mitch” Mitchell, Rich “Richie” Nigra, and John “Johnnie D” Waters. He touched many lives with his sense of humor and always wanting to do the right thing.
Emil is survived by his brother-in-law, Kenneth Louis Izzo, niece, Cheryl Anne Gioia
(Anthony Joseph) and nephew, Louis Kenneth Izzo (Faye Marie), great nieces,
Isabella Stefana Gioia, Cassidy Victoria Gioia, Zoey Lynne Izzo and great nephew, Jacob Tyler Izzo. He is predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Gertrude Koennel and Mary Izzo. He will be sadly missed by many dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life, Saturday February 19, 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria VA 22314. Contributions in his memory can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
