Dorothy Ann Flannery Papich, known to her loved ones as Dee, passed away peacefully on December 10th, 2023 at Reston Hospital Center, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She spent her last days surrounded by those she loved most.
Dee was born on January 26, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida to loving parents William Jackson Flannery and Dorothy Claire Flannery, where she joined her older brother William Jackson Flannery Jr. She grew up in Florida, Spain, and Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland, where she met Samuel Papich Jr. and they eloped. Though the relationship didn’t last, they had a son together, George.
Dee was always well put together and looked so glamorous. She worked for Lancome, Estee Lauder and other cosmetic brands at various department stores throughout her life. She would often say she just sold lipstick but what she really did was spend time talking to and encouraging women of all ages, helping them to feel and look beautiful.
She was a caring mother and grandmother who loved unconditionally. Her passion was her family and whatever her grandchildren were interested in most. Dee loved tea parties, getting her nails done, shopping, and watching movies with lots of treats and loved sharing all of these activities with her grandchildren.
She was a fierce animal lover and treated her dogs, Holly and Honey, and her cat, Baby, like family. She had a strong testimony of her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served as a loving primary teacher and Cub Scout leader. Even though she had a difficult life and faced a lot of adversity, she always said joining the church was the best decision she ever made.
Dee leaves to cherish her memory her son George and daughter-in-law Jennifer, four grandchildren Zachary (Darby), Hannah Loosle (Austin), Jaden, Jackson, and one great-grandchild Miles. Dee is preceded in death by her parents, William Jackson Flannery and Dorothy Claire Flannery.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Dee’s honor on her birthday, Friday, January 26, 2024 at 7:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 4911 Ox Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dee’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.Parkinson.org.
