Carmen Maria Rivera Cardona, age 93, went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2021. Her final moments were at her residence, Westminster at Lake Ridge, with her oldest daughter by her side and her youngest daughter virtually present. Carmen was born on October 6, 1927, in Patillas, Puerto Rico, to Juan Rivera and Felicita Cardona.
She was a strong-willed, independent, and determined woman who raised her two daughters, the youngest, a child with special needs. Her passions were sewing, knitting, cooking, and reading her bible. Her greatest joy was helping to raise her three grandchildren.
Carmen was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, but most of all, she was a devout woman of God. Her faith remained unshaken until her final days. She was admired and loved by many.
Carmen is survived by her two daughters, Yellixa Zobeida Cruz and Eroida Margarita (Margie) Rivera; three grandchildren Alexis Reyes, Arielle Darlene, and Anabelle Nicole Cruz; their father Reyes Cruz; and her great-grandson Samuel Elias Roblero-Cruz. As the eldest of eight children, she is survived by her seven younger siblings, four brothers, and three sisters.
The family is not having a service at this time due to COVID-19. If anyone wants to celebrate her memory, they could do so by donating to the Beverly Farm Foundation, where her youngest daughter Margie resides. For more information, visit .
A Celebration of Life ceremony is planned for a future date and location TBD.
