Susan Elizabeth Gordon was born in Grand Rapids MI on 3/7/1956 and departed this
earth on 7/15/2025 in Alexandria VA with family by her side.
Sue began her military career in 1975 with the United States Army as a radio repairman
in Kaiserslautern Germany. She served for over 4 yrs in the Army, meeting her first
husband and having her only child in Germany during this time. She went on to join the
Air National Guard for about a year, then joined the US Navy where she met her second
husband and served for the next 8 years.
Over the next several years she would dabble in technical jobs with roles as an
Electronic Technician, System Administrator, Systems Analyst, and Program Analyst.
She also went to college in 2002 and got an Oracle Certificate in database software
from the Northern Virginia Community College.
Sue then began her career with TSA in 2005, serving for nearly 20 years as a Program
Analyst for T&D, where she brought with her more than three decades of experience in
electronics and computers. She contributed significantly to programs in the Security
Operations Training Division and the Online Learning Center. In 2021, she was
nominated for a Core Values Award for her tireless efforts in the first months of the
COVID-19 outbreak. Sue juggled more than 30 different projects, including the
development of training in personal protective equipment for our frontline workers. The
TSA Honorary Award recognized her for helping save countless lives at the airports,
while maintaining a crucial security posture during one of the most challenging periods
in our history.
She was known by her workmates as a true computer geek (in the best sense)!
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sue was known for her warmth, her sense
of humor, and the quirky touches that made her presence unforgettable. She was very
proud of her son and often bragged about him at work. She loved to chat with him about
anything and everything. At work, if you ever needed Sue to get something done
quickly, it never failed that a small bribe of dark chocolate would ensure she completed
the task with lightning speed. For anyone who ever visited her cubicle, you’ll remember
it as something between an amusement park and a flea market – full of personality,
color, and curiosity, just like Sue herself. And during any virtual meeting, you could
count on catching a glimpse of her cat, Fannie making a cameo appearance.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Jules and Rosemary Gordon, and her
husband Robert E Sims.
Sue is survived by her son, John Craig Mallas (Krista) two granddaughters, Hailey and
Kaitlyn Mallas, one great grandson, Mozden and her sweet cat, Fannie who is now forever a part of the Mallas family.
