Nancy Gamber

September 29, 1930 - October 4, 2020

Nancy Jane Millere Gamber, age 90, passed from this life into Heaven on October 4, 2020, after celebrating her birthday surrounded by her family. Nancy was born September 29, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio to Edmond Simpson and Estelle Kuhn Millere. She was the second of three children. She grew up in Garden City, New York, graduating from Garden City High School and attending Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. She made lifelong friendships with both her high school friends and her college roommates.

During her time at Endicott, Nancy and her roommates would travel to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis to attend tea dances. At one dance she met a dashing Naval officer, Harold William Gamber. They were married in 1952 and had four children. She and her family spent the next 20 years living in Pensacola Florida, Kittery Maine, Annapolis Maryland, Monterey California, Rota Spain and Tokyo Japan. Nancy loved living the adventurous military lifestyle. Upon returning to the states from Japan in 1969, she and her family settled in Annandale Virginia. She spent the last 6 years of her life living with family in Lake Barcroft VA. She attended St. Alban’s Episcopal church in Annandale for over 51 years and loved being the “coffee hostess” and the “candy lady” at the annual church bazaar.

Nancy’s children, grandchildren and dogs were her greatest love. She also enjoyed playing golf, being the duplicate bridge director at Army Navy Country Club, attending the symphony and traveling. Nancy loved to keep busy, hence her nickname, “Antsy Nancy”. During her life, she was involved in countless opportunities. She was a girl scout leader, sold World Book Encyclopedias, Mary Kay Cosmetics, worked at Northwestern Mutual as an insurance agent, but her most favorite job was at Lord & Taylor working in the men’s department because of her elegant sense of style and engaging personality. Nancy added so much spice and sass to the world with her blunt and biting sense of humor, her distinctive laugh and she was always ready for an adventure. Although being diagnosed with Alzheimers around 10 years ago, she never lost her joy and zest for life. She may have forgotten what she had for lunch but she never forgot how to make people happy.

She is survived by her four children, Ellen Wilson of Marshall, Virginia, Jeanne Holmes (Trip) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Bill Gamber (Jody) of Annandale, Virginia and Ann Gamber (Gabe Nassar) of Falls Church, Virginia; and her seven grandchildren, James and Patrick Holmes; Olivia and Emily Gamber; and Adam, Benjamin and Luke Nassar. She is predeceased by her sister Marilyn Walter and brother Edmond Millere, Jr.

Ann and Family, I had the pleasure of working with your Mom at L&T through High School and College. I worked with your Mom, Jerry Buckbinder and Helene Dysom. They were a funny group to be around and your Mom would make us laugh as she gave her brutally honest opinions of customers suits. She had such a great personality and she always made me laugh.I was very happy to see her when I coached your sons. She was very proud of your family and your siblings. Take Care , Mike Clary

Ellen, Jeanne, Bill and Ann (I really wanted to write Billy) So sorry to hear this, even tho it is kinda expected , its still shocking, and upsets the balance of things. I enjoyed reading the obit, your Mom was definitely one of a kind, I always thought the world of her. You were so fortunate to have her this long!
