MyraSands Lusk, 82, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, surrounded by dear friends who became her family.
Born on October 6, 1943, in Brookline, Massachusetts, MyraSands lived a life defined by service, advocacy, and passion. She was a dedicated champion of women’s rights, social work initiatives, and scientific research. She was especially passionate about supporting vaccine research and public health efforts, believing deeply in the power of science to improve lives and strengthen communities.
MyraSands took great pride in her work with the U.S. Census Bureau, where she approached public service with integrity, diligence, and purpose. She believed civic engagement was essential to a thriving democracy and worked tirelessly in support of that mission.
An active and engaged member of her community, MyraSands belonged to the Alexandria Rotary Club from 2016 until her passing, forming meaningful friendships while contributing to service projects that supported those in need. She was also a devoted member of the Unitarian Church, where she sang joyfully in the church chorus, an experience that brought her great fulfillment and connection.
Among her greatest joys was rescuing dogs. Over the course of her life, MyraSands rescued and cared for more than ten dogs, providing them with loving homes. Her dedication to animal welfare reflected her passionate and generous spirit.
Although she never had children, MyraSands embraced her community as her family. She leaves behind a circle of devoted friends whose lives were enriched by her intelligence, energy, advocacy, and steadfast friendship.
MyraSands will be remembered for her commitment to justice, her belief in science and service, her love of music, and the passion with which she lived her life. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
