Mrs. Emma Ragin, 77, of Arlington, Virginia was born in St. Charles, South Carolina on
February 19,1948 to Mr. Rueben Carter and Mrs. Maggie Kelley Carter. She was called
to glory on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Fairfax Inova Hospital after a short illness.
Emma graduated from Sumter High School in 1966 where she marched proudly with
the high school band, already showing the spirit and determination that would guide her
through life. Shortly after high school, she was united in holy matrimony with Johnny
Ragin Sr. of Sumter, South Carolina. Their journey together eventually came to an end,
and Emma moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she lived for several years. In
1987, she moved to Alexandria, Virgina to be closer to her family. Until her retirement,
Emma took pride in her role as the Activities Director at Sunrise Retirement Home. She
was always the life of the party and loved to dance, listen to music, go on long walks,
shop and do crossword puzzles. At family gatherings, she was the first person on the
dance floor and the last person to leave it.
Emma leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Johnny Ragin Jr. and Tony Ragin
(Anne), three daughters, Angela Ragin Wison (Albert), Tamara Ragin, and Carol Ragin,
three sisters, Maggie Carter White (Isiah) and Ernestine Carter Singleton (William) of
Sumter, South Caroline and Margie Carter McCoy of New Jersey, five granddaughters,
Rochon, Bazh, Elise, Taylor and Allison, three grandsons, Albert Jr., Lucas and
Anthony, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and three great grandchildren.
