Patrick Allen Becker

June 8, 1971 - March 24, 2026

Commander Patrick Allen Becker, US Navy (Ret.), of Lorton, VA, was born in Homestead, Florida in 1971 and moved to the Dallas, Texas area in 1973. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1993 with a degree in physics and married his true love and high school sweetheart, Kathryn Ward, a week later.

Patrick was selected for the US Navy Nuclear Officer Program in 1991, and earned his commission in 1994. He served in the US Navy for 24 years, to include submarine service on the USS Wyoming, USS Boise, and the USS Helena. He retired in 2015 after 24 years of service.

A life-long learner, Patrick also earned his Master of Arts in Economics from University of Oklahoma in 2000, a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at National Defense University in 2012, and was selected and attended the Harvard Kennedy School’s Senior Executive Fellows (SEF) Program.

After retiring from the Navy, he joined the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) at Ft Belvoir, Virginia and continued his service to the public through various nonproliferation efforts around the world. He most recently served as Deputy Director of the Global Threat Reduction Directorate.

Over his long working life, Patrick and his family lived up and down the east coast, as well as San Diego, California, Naples, Italy, Singapore, and the Washington DC area. He and Kathryn recently built their forever home in Texas on a lake near Corsicana where they planned to retire soon to be near family.

For a man with such a serious focus in his work he was so joyful in his off hours. He was a fiercely intelligent, kind, and generous person, “the very definition of a good guy” as numerous friends have said in recent days. He loved his life and enjoyed exploring the outdoors, stargazing, camping, board games, and online games with his family and many dear friends.

Patrick’s beloved family was his life and his soul. He is survived by his wife Kathryn (née Ward), and their children Michael and Emily, and her wife Kaylee Moseley, his father Jeff Becker, his father-in-law Richard Ward and stepmother-in-law Judy Conroy, and the wider Becker and Ward families. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vicki Becker, and his mother-in-law Beth Ward. Many will love and miss him more than words can say, and are all forever proud of him, a new star has joined the ones at night that are big and bright. Fair winds and following seas, Patrick.

Pat was an amazing man of many talents; a true Renaissance Man. A truly great human being that has made the world a better place. I learned so much from him.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Patrick's passing. He was a remarkable leader and incredible mentor to me. I will always be grateful for the opportunity he gave me and the guidance he provided, and remember his kindness and dedication. Please accept my heartfelt condolences!

On behalf of the Indo Pacific team, we would like to express our deepest condolences. Although only a few of us had the privilege to work directly with Pat, the wisdom and compassion with which he led the team left a profound impact on all of us. His legacy lives on in the work we do every day and in the supportive culture he helped build. He will always be with us in spirit.

I met Patrick in high school. For some reason, I have been remembering when he became a member of the drama society, and we did the overnight initiation (I doubt that happens nowadays). He was dressed funny, and the police stopped us at one point, and we needed to slowly remove his outfit, before it caused questions! We lost touch after high school, but I was working in Italy when he was stationed there in the early 2000s, and we were able to meet up again, with his lovely wife Kathryn. Patrick was kind, put up with idiocy around him in good humor, and the news of his death shook me hard. The world is in a worse place without him in it. May he rest in peace.

He won't be forgotten but always remembered by everyone who knew him! Memories will remain forever on his family's heart.

Indeed Patrick was the definition of a “really great guy.” He and Kathryn were made for each other and the life they made together was beautiful. Patrick will be missed by everyone who knew him. Our hearts go out to Kathryn and their children as they try to find a way forward.

Pat was a good friend, colleague, and boss who cared deeply about his people. His contributions in the Navy and at DTRA have left the world a safer place.

My deepest condolences to your wife and two kiddos. To my cousin End of Watch. You have honorable served our Country for 24 years and served an additional 11 more years continuing to honor your craft and building your legacy. I cannot speak for those that you served with Patrick, but I know that you’re a Becker and we strive to be the best at what we do. I am honored to have had you as my cousin and to have served with you. I know that your Mom and your Dad along with your family are so grateful and proud of you for all your accomplishments and the man that you were. We Love and miss you. Rest easy Cousin, May you always have Fair Winds and Following Seas Semper Fidelis.
