Nancy Jean Lane, age 79, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at the
home of her son and son-in-law in Alexandria, VA. Formerly a longtime resident of Audubon Park and
Pennsauken, NJ, Nancy spent the last year and a half as a vibrant member of the Sunrise of Alexandria,
VA community.
A proud 1964 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School, Nancy began her career as a first-grade
teacher at Our Lady of Grace in Somerdale, NJ. After pausing her career to dedicate herself to
motherhood and volunteering at St. Stephen’s School and Parish in Pennsauken NJ, Nancy returned to
school at age 40. She earned her LPN degree and served as a nurse in cardiac and surgical care before
becoming a licensed addiction counselor—a role she often cited as the highlight of her professional life.
Nancy was a woman of many joys. She cherished going on cruises with her “honey” Bud. She loved
spending time with family and friends. More recently, she became a resident bingo champion and karaoke
star at Sunrise, where she was known for her love of crafts and her gift for conversation.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leroy “Nanny” and Elizabeth (née Hogan) Krown, and her sister, M.
Lee Hansbury (née Krown).
Her legacy of love lives on through her son and son-in-law, Dr. Robert “Bob” Lane and Gerard Wall of
Alexandria, VA; her sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and James White of Newtown, CT; her brother-in-
law, Robert Hansbury of Ocean City, NJ; and her brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Anna Krown of
Clearwater, FL. She is also survived by nephews, a niece, a great-niece, a great-nephew, many cousins.
My mother asked that if you would like to do something in her memory or to honor her, please donate
high need food items to your local shelter or food pantry. And in the fall, please plant some bulbs of her
favorite flowers: yellow daffodils.
From as early as I can remember, there was a plaque hanging in my bedroom that my mother made, and
on it were these words. She embodied all the positive ones, and I am who I am today because of her.
Children Learn What They Live
If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence.
If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice.
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with honesty, he learns truthfulness.
If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith in himself and others.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world.
