Jeffrey Larson

December 2, 1961 - January 8, 2021

JEFFREY SCOTT LARSON, outstanding civil attorney and beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, of Burke, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2021. He was 59 years old.

A diligent student from an early age, Jeff graduated from Cary High School in 1980, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and the University of Maryland School of Law in 1989. He held bar certifications in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Prior to his law career, he worked for the Department of Defense.

Jeff was a voracious reader. His townhouse was mostly bookshelves, which held his collection of nearly 7,000 volumes with many being first editions. Many family gatherings were spent with him watching his favorite teams–Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Reds, and, of course, the Tar Heels. A cheerful rivalry ensued when the Tar Heels played the more popular family team, the NC State Wolfpack.

Jeff and his nephew, Alex Stone, were on a joint quest to visit all 50 states. The quest remains unfinished, with 47 states visited and the final 3 trips already mapped out.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Roy and Darlyne Larson. He is survived by his brother, Alan Larson (wife Anisa) of Clayton, North Carolina and their children, Lee Chatham, Bradley Lagois, Shelby and Darcy; his sister, Linda Larson Stone (husband Tracy) of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and their children, Alex and Erin; his brother, Brian Larson (wife Shannon) of San Luis Obispo, California and their children Forrest, Elliot and Olivia; and his aunt, Helen Hagen of Manassas, Virginia. Many cousins also survive him.

We have contemplated many words to describe Jeff and the life that he lived. The best words include loving brother and uncle, a wise mentor, and a loyal friend. None of them adequately encompass the entirety of Jeff. He was simply sui generis, truly one of a kind.

We had been to court so many times for the past 16 years. You were a great and genius attorney. I will miss you a lot, Jeff. RIP.

My family sends our condolences to Jeff's family and friends. He was a great guy and we enjoyed his visits over the years. He and Gene had a lot of fun trips and had planned another one this year to Florida to see the Orioles in spring training. He will be missed by so many of us. My You Rest In Peace.

Jeff was truly a brother and best friend. We were friends for over 30 years. His family became my family and my heart goes out to them. We all lost a brother, uncle and a dear friend. Jeff made our lives richer and he will truly be missed. RIP My Friend.

Jeff Larson was an excellent attorney, always prepared and sound on the law. It was my honor to have him practice before me and a pleasure to see him on any docket. He will be missed. God bless.

Mr. Larson regularly appeared in our court. He was an excellent attorney who was always well-prepared, had an excellent knowledge of the law, and common sense. We will certainly miss him. RIP

Although I only met Jeff once as a client, we talked for over an hour about travel and shared stories about interesting places. He was super kind, interesting, and obviously intelligent. When I heard this news, it hit me as if I knew him for years. That's the kind of immediate impact he had on people. I can only imagine how his family feels about their loss.

I had the pleasure of dealing with him on the phone and e-mail. The man was always very quick, gentle and extremely knowledgeable. It would have been my pleasure to work with him in person. R.I.P.
