James Arthur “Jim” Haman, age 80, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away peacefully at
home on September 20, 2025 after a long illness.
Jim was born on October 17, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Henry Haman and
Lillian (Koeller) Haman. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his sister, Joan
(Haman) Renderer, and his brother, Donald Haman.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Peggy (Coffman) Haman of Alexandria,
Virginia; his daughters, Erica Haman of North Bethesda, Maryland, and Lauren Haman
of Arlington, Virginia; his step-daughter, Renae (Fleischmann) Woolsey of Oak City,
Utah; his step-son, Henry Fleischmann of Aldie, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Caitlin
Fleischmann of Aldie, Virginia, and Juston Woolsey of Oak City, Utah.
Jim grew up in Miami, Florida, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of
Florida, and proudly served in the United States Army. He then settled in Virginia,
where he built a family and an accounting career. He was a devoted husband, father,
stepfather, grandfather, and uncle. He had a great love for sports, especially golf, and
was known for his warmth, humor, facial expressions, and his rough-and-tumble voice.
In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held. His ashes will be spread
at a later date in a private family setting. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be
made in Jim’s honor to the National Association for Down Syndrome, in tribute to his
granddaughter Caitlin, his “little cheerleader.”
