I was so sorry to learn of Mr. Wharton's passing. Our community will really miss his personal approach to customer service and deep knowledge of his products. He had just sold me my latest GE appliance--a new dishwasher--and I had no idea that might be the last time I would see him. I had been debating between the GE and another brand, so when he told me he had the GE model, himself, I knew that was the one to go with.

To Dabney's family: My sincere sympathy. As your obituary notes, Dabney was indeed an honest businessman, willing to share his vast amount of knowledge and information even when he knew a sale was not in the offing. He had a warm personality, a twinkle in his eye, a calming demeanor, and welcomed all who entered his store. He will be missed by so many of us in the community.
Karen Lockhart (Keyser) left a message on April 16, 2025:
My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. It was a pleasure knowing Dabney. He will be missed by many.

As we walked into the Wharton home, my husband and I were always greeted with warmth and enthusiasm, but Dabney has that smile and low key manner, a quiet demeanor. Jeff and I were glad that some of the family relatives were on the east coast. Many good visits! He will be missed, but Kim, Andrea, and Kristyn will welcome you graciously into their home as always.
Linda Schwartz left a message on April 16, 2025:
Dabney was one of a kind. The first time we bought an appliance from him, my husband and I were incredibly impressed with his knowledge, his professionalism, and his ability to connect with us as customers. We were sold. We bought every major appliance from him after that, including those that we gave as gifts to my parents. We sent countless friends and family to Dabney over the years, and each of them was so grateful. We loved visiting his shop and just chatting with him. He was such a class act and the community is going to miss him so much. I can only imagine how difficult his passing is going to be on his friends and loved ones. He set the standard. And he leaves a legacy of honesty, customer service, and friendliness. Our sympathies on the loss of such a quality human being. Linda and Art Schwartz.

Dear Kim, I am so saddened at the loss of my friend Dabney. He was always a delight to see and have time for a conversation. I last chatted with him for about ten minutes just as the Walgreens pharmacy was closing in early April. I’m so very sorry. Bo Conner

We are shocked to learn of Dabney's death . . . but I'll remember him when I open the refrigerator door, run the dishwasher, do laundry, etc., since he sold us all those appliances! He was a truly wonderful businessman and I'm sad to know he can't still be helping us all. Deepest condolences to his loving family and Lucy.

Oh, oh... This man was pure "contribution" to others, unique, with a huge heart, patient & understanding, friendly, present, and he was the gift. He helped us as we moved in, down the street, with appliances every time we needed them, "call Dabney." Always available, and pleasant. I knew from his manner, a master of his craft, a man of service. Blessings and deepest condolences to his family, all his friends, and many, so many, customers he touched: directly, and beyond. And for his unforgettable manner. Praise to God, for this wonderful man!

Dabney was a very nice person and always very knowledgable and helpful to me and other members of the Lyon Park Women's Club when any of us needed to purchase appliances. His gracious expertise will be missed. I loved petting his sweet dog when visiting the store. Rest in peace.

Dabney was my dearest friend for almost 50 years. He touched so many lives and each of us is richer for having known him. He made me a part of his family and because of him, I now have Kim, Andrea, Kristyn and Peggy to love too. My heart is a little lighter today because he took a piece of it with him when he left us. Rest in peace, Dabney, until we meet again.

Such fond memories of playing softball for Dabney, coach extraordinaire, while our kids played in the dirt! And of course purchasing many items through the years at his store. What a great guy, what a great friend, and what a great life he lived. Rest in peace and rise in glory.
